Page Area & Lake Powell

Antelope Canyon X (March 17):

Hiking the Antelope slot Canyons–Canyon X is what this one was called. Most folks hike the Upper Antelope and the Lower Antelope slot canyon and they can be very crowded. Antelope Canyon X is not quite on the main track and our tour was just Tom and I with a family of 5–we got to wander around and spend as much time exploring and photographing as we wanted. The tour company is run by the grand daughter of a Navajo Indian who had grazing rights to this area. They have the rights to this area that includes the slot canyon, which is now how they are making some $$$. Our guide brought his guitar down and played as we walked through the canyon!

It’s the wrong time of year to see the sun rays shine directly through the slots–that starts in a few weeks and will be able to be seen through the fall.

Horseshoe Bend, Colorado River (March 17)

Lake Powell Boat Tour (March 17): Fascinating tour of Navaho Canyon and Antelope Canyon from Lake Powell. We were also very lucky to have about 1/4 of the folks that the boat can handle–so we had great views!

Glen Canyon Dam (March 18): I should have been a civil engineer–I love dams and bridges!!
