October 10 – 13: Holy Moly! This is the land of the Western movies! The first photo is basically where Forest Gump turns around when he is running across the United States. There is a John Ford view point within the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park that looks like John Wayne should be sitting on his horse looking out across the valley.
The small town of Goulding sits just outside of the Monument Valley and our RV park even had a peek-a-boo view of the Monument rock formations.
Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park Drive: We took this drive the late afternoon of October 12th, which provided amazing shadows and light-play off the rock formations. This park is fully owned and operated by the Navajo Nation and has restricted access. That being said, we were able to drive the 17 miles on our own with the agreement that we would stay on the main road and not hike off the road. There were plenty of tours that explored other parts of the area provide by the Navajo Nation.
