Texas — Part 1: Amarillo, a Mammoth in Waco and the Magnolia Silos

Texas in spring is lovely.

  • We spent 2 nights in Amarillo (OK, Amarillo isn’t so lovely) to de-winterize and make sure we still knew how to handle the rig. Highlights include the second largest canyon in the United States, Palo Duro Canyon in the nearby State Park, the RV Museum (actually an excellent walk down memory lane recalling my Aunt Mary and Uncle Chuck’s first Winnebago) and a quick stop by Cadillac Ranch where the Cadillac are planted in the ground.
  • Waco and Lake Whitney to see Chip and Joanna Gaines of HGTV’s Fixer Upper fame Magnolia business with my old college friend, Kim Albee and her partner, Jennifer Nelson. Oh, I cannot forget the Waco Mammoth National Monument where 19 baby mammoths were found after drowning from rapidly raising flood waters.

March 7: Time to leave home before the crazy cyclone bomb blizzard! Actually we left the week before–just had fog and a little freezing rain to contend with.
