May 6 – May 10, 2019: We continued our Ecuadoran adventure by flying from Quito to Coca, Ecuador, which is located on the convergence of the Napo River and Coca River in the Ecuadoran Amazon Basin. We were on the Manatee Amazon Explorer Riverboat for 4 nights, 5 days and cruised down the Napo River to Peru in a combination of the Manatee Riverboat and our 40 foot motorized canoe. We saw a variety of birds to include parrots, macaws and stinky turkey (Hoatzin), plus types of monkeys. My only regret is that my Samsung 8 cell phone camera not begin to capture the wildlife, but here is my best attempt!
The scenery was unexpected in many ways–we motored into the tributaries through thick jungle forests that opened to large areas full of birds. We donned our rubber rain boots and wandered through the jungle forest paths in search of monkeys and additional wildlife. We also climbed a 12 story tower to get a look above the Amazon Rainforest canopy.
