Friday, June 21 – Monday, June 24: The first day of summer brought snow and rain and an assessment of the pros and cons of RV/Camper size, extra friends to join in the crazy camping weather as we attempted to picnic and barbeque as well as the best way to create a smore!
Renee and Oliver Krahn and Cindy Mueler and Rick Kron joined us up at the National Campground Stillwater Campground, Lake Granby for the weekend with their respective rigs. It was fun to think about the pros and cons of our big 5th wheel, Renee and Oliver’s RPod (22′ travel trailer) and Rick and Cindy’s Tag trailer, which is basically a bed in a trailer with the kitchen outside on the back of the trailer. Obviously, we faired better with our size and the weather. But we were also the limiting factor when reserving our campsites. We barely fit into this campground, but can’t complain as we had unexpectedly great views of Lake Granby. Renee and Oliver’s RPod provides the best compromise with the size being big enough to sleep, eat and go potty, but still fit into most campsites. Rick and Cindy’s Tag trailer is the cutest and can fit anywhere, even in their driveway at their house! It was a fun weekend!
Party time! Cathy Jarnigan dragged her dad, Nick, and son, Ryan, up to the mountains for a little surprise birthday celebration for Nick. Cathy’s partner, Nancy McIntosh and two other friends from Tabernash joined in the fun. All 12 of us had to dive into our rig for lunch, but the weather cleared enough for a fire and smores later in the afternoon.
Advanced Smore Making: Smore making started the traditional method with a Hershey bar and a marshmallow. Then we ventured out to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups–wow, what a difference! Then Cindy shared the Ghirardelli chocolate bars–Carmel, mint, dark chocolate and I think the winner, raspberry! Amazing!
