Scooting across the Northern States (Aug 8 – 13)

August  8 – 13: Over 5 days, we scooted from the Detroit area across Ohio, the northwestern tip of Pennsylvania, New York state from just east of Buffalo through the Finger Lakes and Adirondacks, across Vermont and New Hampshire, up Maine and into New Brunswick! Whew!

Detroit to Alma NB

We managed to spend 2 nights in the Adirondacks of New York, where Tom’s brother Alan (not on his motorcycle) visited us and then 2 nights in Augusta, Maine where we met Cathy Lounsbury Piper, a distant Lounsbury cousin who Tom has been in contact with over Ancestry.com for over 2 years. They spent one morning researching ancestors (I would like to emphasize DEAD ancestors, but that is redundant) in Hallowell and Augusta as well as a grave yard. Tom was in HEAVEN! Cathy is a kindred spirit (a new term that I’ve picked up from reading “Anne of Green Gables” in preparation for visiting Prince Edward Island next week) and we enjoyed meeting her and hanging out with her immensely. I managed to get my first taste of lobster at a funky little roadside stop before we headed across the border to Canada.
