Canada’s Maritime Provinces: Mainland Nova Scotia – Part 2 (Aug 17 – 22)

Aug 17 – 22: I had to split this time up as the photos are too lovely to overwhelm you in one blog post! The fog and rain lifted after our visit to Halifax and Tuesday, Aug 20th, we wandered down the coast through a number of scenic villages and harbors to Lunenburg, a planned community set up by the British in 1753 to displace the Native Americans and Acadians with “400 foreign Protestants.” It is considered the best example of a planned British community as well as one of the most scenic towns in Canada. We also drove through Mahone Bay, which boasts 3 beautiful churches sitting on the waterfront offering a beautiful focal point across the harbor.

Wednesday, Aug 21: We beat the crowds to Peggy’s Cove, apparently THE most photographed lighthouse in the WORLD! It was quite lovely with ANOTHER small charming harbor, but also had an amazing light house perched on large slabs of granite. Thankfully, our early start for the day paid off as we drove back down the windy road to Peggy’s Cove, we saw 5 tour buses with 50 passengers each headed that way, which apparently is the rate of buses visiting throughout the day. How could there be room for all those people?

We had time to take the bikes out on the local Rails-to-Trails bike route, but nothing particularly photo worthy was encountered.
