Pennsylvania & Ohio: Family, Friends and National Park Sites (Sep 22 – 28)

Pennsylvania (September 22 – 25): We camped in the Poconos for 3 nights and ventured up to Wilkes-Barre, PA to visit Tom’s Aunt Sheila and meet her daughter, Robin Yedlock and her entire family (bonus–more family!!), popped over to Scranton (for you “Office” fans) to see the Steamtown National Historical Site, an historical site that restores steam engines and preserves their history. We then down to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area where the Delaware River follows provides the New Jersey/Pennsylvania border. Human existence in this area goes back 10,000 years.

Ohio (September 25 – 28): We headed into the “vowel” states and visited more of Tom’s cousins and family friends. We also picked up one more National Park, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, just south of Cleveland on the Cuyahoga River. The Cuyahoga River was made famous with the few times it actually caught on fire due to the excessive pollution. The last time was in 1969, which Tom actually recalls as they lived in the area. We had a lively visit with his second cousin, Diane Isaac and her husband Terry in Medina as well as Tom’s mom’s life-long best friend, Ruth Rayle and her son Tim in North Olmstead Falls (bummer, forgot to get a photo of Ruth and Tim!)
