Big Bend National Park: Part 3 – Eastern Area of Rio Grande Village (Feb 26)

Every outing at Big Bend NP seems to include a significant drive to get to the area of interest. The hour drive took us to the far eastern border right on the Mexican and USA border at the Rio Grande Village that includes a semi-official crossing to Boquillas, Mexico as well as another geological formation of Boquillas Canyon. We didn’t cross the border ourselves, but we did see local Mexican’s crossing and the border as well as signs that they cross regularly, but it seems really low key.

There is a crazy drive limited by the with of your truck into a little hot springs on the Rio Grande, which folks can take advantage of soaking in. It was quite nippy that morning, so we passed on the hot springs dip, but took a nice walk/hike around the area for another view of the Rio Grande. Roadrunners are EVERYWHERE…so we kept singing “Roadrunner, the coyote is after you!”. We also saw our share of coyotes, but they were too fast to get a photo!
