White Sands National Park and Alamogordo to Las Cruces Area (March 2 – 6)

March 4: White Sands National Park…this is not snow! It’s sand created from eroded gypsum, which is the amber glass looking “rock” pictured below.

March 3: New Mexico National Museum of Space History is located up the hill in Alamogordo, NM. It is full of well documented and presented space history as well as some of the odd ball items as well. They had a great display of the Original Star Trek items and history!

Tom is standing in front of a display on imaging satellites that includes the Ikonos satellite imagery in which he lead the team that acquired the satellite upon launch and flew it for a number of years.

March 4: White Sands Missile Range on the way to Las Cruces, NM has an amazing visitors center right on the base. Well worth a stop to glean a through history of the US missile program.
