After cancelling or readjusting all of our travel plans for 2020 due to the Covid Pandemic, we decided to venture out in our home state of Colorado and take 3 weeks to focus on the SW. So far camping in a Covid world has been quite easy and seemingly safe…other than finding other RV Quilters and quilting friends where social distancing wasn’t practiced as well as it should have been while comparing rigs and quilt projects!
We spent 5 nights at a KOA up the road from Carbondale, between Glenwood Springs and Aspen. We rode a few Rails-to-Trails bike trails, wandered around Independence Pass visited “old” England friends, Dan and Julie Feuerborn.
June 15: Our bike ride on the Rio Grande Rails-to–Trails route up to Aspen provided amazing scenery along the Roaring Fork River as well as distractions for Tom taking phone calls from our brother in-law on trailer advice. Later that night we had a lovely dinner with the Feuerborns.
June 16: Independence Pass outside of Aspen, CO. Google thought we could take Independence Pass from Leadville to Apsen with the rig, but thankfully, we knew better! As you can see from one of the road pictures, our rig would not have fared well on that curve with the rock cliff edge!
We took a short hike that should have been longer, but it was expected to cross the creek on a few logs tossed across (see the photo with the fast moving creek below).
June 17: The Glenwood Canyon bike trail is wedged right between I70 (or UNDER it) and the Colorado River. It was amazing to be right next to the very full river! No rafters on this stretch!
