September in Maine – Part 2

September 13 – 23: Our next two sets of visitors provided opportunity for more exploration. The visit with my brother and his wife, Jay and Katharine, took us back to Mount Desert Island (MDI) for a boat tour around the islands just south of MDI, dinner at Bass Harbor and hiking to beautiful locations around Schoodic Peninsula. As you will see from the hiking photos, most of Maine hiking consists of climbing up rock faces over old root systems or trying to get down them!

Our friends, Renee and Oliver’s visit allowed us to visit more of Schoodic Peninsula as well as traveling even further up the Maine coast to experience Lubec, Quoddy Head and the area, the furtherest northeastern point of the United States.

September 13 – 18: Jay and Katharine’s Visit

September 13 – 24: Renee and Oliver’s Visit

We made the trip “Down East” to Lubec, Quoddy Head and Eastport where the tide differential is up to 20 feet! We were on the entrance to the Bay of Fundy, which has the highest tide differential in the world of up to 50′! We were not able to cross over the bridge to Campobello, FDR’s childhood summer home, due to Covid restrictions and the island being technically in Canada.
