October Mish-Mash in Maine – October 2021

October finally brought the colors that we had been anticipating for our entire stay in Maine. It also brought more friends from Colorado to the area!

October 12 – 13: We spent 2 days with Cindy Mueller and Rick Kron touring our local area. We drove a little north of us to the blueberry barrens in their fall glory, 6” – 12” shrubs that all of the wild Maine blueberries come from. We also made a visit to Tidal Falls in nearby Hancock and the pink star fish…I guess they are now called sea stars as they technically aren’t fish. On a side note, these pink star fish from Tidal Falls were the inspiration for Sponge Bob Square Pants’ character, Patrick! Of course, a trip up to Schoodic Head with Rick and Cindy’s faithful companion, Watson, capped off the trip with views Down East as well as Mt. Desert Island.

October 16 & 18: Colorado friends, Wendy Kidd and Shelly Spaulding along with Shelly’s family visited us at the Rockefeller Hall while we were in Volunteer action. We were treated us to a homemade lobster dinner at their amazing abode in SW Harbor a few days later.

October 10: We found a fairly new biking, cross-country skiing park near Grindstone, ME on our trip to that area in August, the East Penobscot River Trails. This place was another demonstration of the generosity of Mainers as a local Mainer who made big $$$ with Fidelity built the biking, hiking and winter fun park and then donated it for public use. We came back to check out the trails in peak color and were not disappointed!

  1. Wow! Your pictures are stunning! And you two look so healthy and happy. You are obviously better for all of these experiences. I never got to visit Maine because there was too much fog in Bar Harbor when my cruise went through there. My only regret from that particular cruise. Take care!
